General Manager Malcolm Beaton said “During its first year of operation Strait Area Transit has seen usage and ridership continue to climb from month to month”

Beaton went on to say “that although the non-profit charitable organization receives financial support from the four Strait Area Municipal Units and other agencies, these contributions, along with fare revenue, do not cover the operating costs of a transit system.”

Without fundraising the fare structure would have to be such that it would be unaffordable to most of the ridership.
